Mac OSX 10.8 screen mirroring technology comes to Windows; Mirror your iOS device to any PC
North Canton, Ohio — Squirrels, LLC. launched AirParrot and Reflection for Windows earlier today. The applications bring AirPlay mirror technology to the Windows platform.
Previously, such technology was limited to Apple devices, and porting to Windows presented challenges for developers. Head developer David Stanfill explained, "Apple gives developers access to a very rich set of frameworks and technologies for audio and video processing that Microsoft just hasn't matched.” The developers had to license and include software to bring the functionality to Windows.
Reflection brings iOS device mirroring that was previously only available on Apple TV to almost any computer. Launched in mid-February, the OS X version has seen many updates that added recording, selectable frames and full screen mode among other features. The Windows version will launch with all of these features and allow users to see their iPhone 4S, iPad 2 or new iPad on their desktops.
AirPlay mirroring technology for computers was previously only available on Apple’s latest unreleased version of OS X Mountain Lion. AirParrot allows users on older versions of OS X with older hardware to enjoy the same functionality. Now the AirPlay mirroring protocol can be used by Windows users, too.
“We're still working on some features for Windows, but we hope to release updates that add most of the functionality users find on OS X,” Stanfill said. “This summer, we hope to have perfected versions.”
AirParrot is available with a single machine license for $14.99 USD and a 5-machine license for $49.99 USD.
Reflection can be purchased with the same options for $19.99 USD and $59.99USD respectively.
