Reflector Student brings the teacher’s screen to the student’s desk
NORTH CANTON, Ohio – August 25, 2015 – The new Reflector Student mobile app from Squirrels allows students to view real-time content from teacher and peer devices on their smart phones and tablets and provides new connection methods for schools with restrictive subnets.
Reflector Student is a free iOS companion app to Reflector 2. Each student’s mobile device uses Reflector Student to wirelessly communicate with Reflector 2 running on the teacher’s computer. The app reflects anything that is displayed on the teacher’s screen directly to every connected student device.
“Reflector Student increases the functionality of iPads, iPhones and iPods in the classroom and decreases the reliance on SMART boards and projection systems,” Squirrels co-founder Andrew Gould said. “Students can simultaneously view the same videos, presentations, pictures, web pages and documents their teacher is seeing directly from their personal mobile devices.”
Any number of Reflector Student applications can be connected to Reflector 2 at once. A whole classroom can connect, allowing students to not only see the teacher’s screen, but their peers’ screens as well.
Reflector Student also acts as a workaround for schools that experience Reflector 2 connectivity issues due to the use of separate subnets or virtual networks. New Reflector 2 connection methods include Bluetooth discovery, quick-connect codes and iOS camera linking.
“Some schools host their student and teacher devices on separate networks,” Gould said. “This used to prevent students from being able to connect to Reflector 2. That won’t be an issue anymore with Reflector Student’s enhanced device-connection features.”
Once paired with Reflector 2, Reflector Student will remember the pairing and automatically connect for future uses to save classroom time. In addition, it will add destinations to the AirPlay list if they’re available.
